Journal Covers-Mixed Media

Hello

I have a couple of mixed media covers to show you today.
Both sets of covers are based on chipboard, which I painted first with gesso.

The first set was then painted with acrylic paints.
Various elements were die cut, embossed or coloured and then applied with mod podge. An all over coat of mod podge was applied to seal it, and rhinestones added to birds eyes and flowers. When dried a second all over coat was applied to protect.

Tim Holtz  branch tree and foliage strip dyes were used. A woodgrain embossing folder and Heartfelt Creations Birds and Blooms stamps and dies.

The inside of the covers were covered in patterned paper and and holes punched for binding.

A sheet of plain card which has been stamped was added inside the front and back, and pages of lined coloured papers added.

A pocket envelope is fixed to the back page.

This cover has been done a little differently.
After the initial coat of gesso, I applied crackle texture to the top of the board and smooth texture in curves to the lower section.

Acrylic paints were then applied.

Stampscapes scenes were stamped on to tissue paper then applied with mod podge to the cover, and the whole cover painted with mod podge. When dried I added additional paint, some glitter glue to the waterfalls for sparkle, and when this had dried another full coat of mod podge to protect.

The back cover was simple painted, the tree trunks added and the whole cover sealed.

Covers were again lined with paper and binding holes punched.

The book was completed in the same way as the previous one.

I really enjoyed creating these books  and I will be definitely making more.

Till next time - have fun creating
BaRb
